XP からの移行でいきなりパッケージ更新という状態の人もいますので、
手順をまとめておきます。

1. メニュー - セットアップ - Puppyパッケージマネージャ を起動

ここで過去に OpenSSL をパッケージインストールしている場合は
右下にある インストール済みパッケージ から openssl(あれば libssl も)を予め削除して下さい。

2. パッケージマネージャの設定 を選択、更に表示されたウインドウで ただちに更新 を選択

3. このような画面になるので enter キー(Mac は return キー)を何度か押す。
  これで Ubuntu パッケージの最新情報を取り出します。
4. 検索で openssl と入力し、検索されたパッケージの openssl_1.0.1 を選択してインストール。
5. 検索で libssl と入力し、検索されたパッケージの libssl1.0.0_1.0.1 を選択してインストール。

  ここまで行うと、右下に openssl と libssl が加わっている状態になります。

6. パッケージマネージャをすべて閉じ、端末 をクリックして起動。
  openssl version -b と入力して、下記の表示になる事を確認。

シノバー さんが書きました:最善ではありませんが、対処法の1つを記します。(571JP, 550JP)
Ubuntuから修正パッケージが出ています。
https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/precise/i3 ... ubuntu5.12 から
libssl1.0.0_1.0.1-4ubuntu5.12_i386.deb をダウンロードし、インストールすれば、とりあえずはOKかと。
「最善ではありません」と言ったのは、Ubuntuパッケージとパピーの整合性の問題からです。
Precise Puppy 5.7.1 は Openssl に関して Ubuntuの3つのパッケージを使っています。
libssl0.9.8_0.9.8o-7ubuntu3.1_i386.deb
libssl1.0.0_1.0.1-4ubuntu5.9_i386.deb
openssl_1.0.1-4ubuntu5.9_i386.deb
これらをそのままインストールしているわけでなく、これらから次の2つのPETを作っているようです。
このときにいくつかのファイルを削除し、またディレクトリ配置も変えている。
openssl
openssl0
それぞれの内容は /root/.packages/builtin_files/openssl などを手がかりに分かります。 さきの記事に記載したとおり。
ここで libssl0.9.8_0.9.8o-7ubuntu3.1_i386.deb 由来のものは、今回は関係なさそうです。
Ubuntuが出している修正パッケージは次の2つ。
libssl1.0.0_1.0.1-4ubuntu5.12_i386.deb
openssl_1.0.1-4ubuntu5.12_i386.deb
この2つを仔細に見ます
openssl_1.0.1-4ubuntu5.12_i386.deb に収録のうち、たとえば /usr/bin/openssl は、タイムスタンプこそ違えファイルサイズは同じ、 openssl version を実行したときの結果も同じで、どうも中身は変わっていない様子。
libssl1.0.0_1.0.1-4ubuntu5.12_i386.deb に収録の /lib 以下の2つはパピーの openssl の配置に合致してますが、/usr/lib 以下にある engines の上位ディレクトリ名が パピーの openssl と異なっています。

以上のことから、 libssl1.0.0_1.0.1-4ubuntu5.12_i386.deb のみのインストールでとりあえずOKかと。openssl_1.0.1-4ubuntu5.12_i386.deb もインストールしてもとりあえず副作用はなさそう。
ただし /usr/lib/openssl-1.0.0/engines 以下にインストールされるものが、不要な気がする。
現在のところの考察は以上です。

加筆: openssl_1.0.1-4ubuntu5.12_i386.deb にアップデートすることで、 /etc/ssl/openssl.cnf の内容が微妙に変わる。どんな影響があるか無いか不明。

うむ。とりあえずシノバーさん見解では libssl の更新のみで大丈夫そうだ、って事ですね。
本来 OpenSSL 本体を openssl、ライブラリを libssl で公開しているのですが、
結局 libssl にも OpenSSL の本体が含まれてしまってるんですね。 :x
でも、何かこのようにしている意味があるように思われますので、
上記と本家で入れている説明書きはまだそのままにしておきます。
後に libssl のみに変えるかもしれません。

さすがに本家フォーラムでも反応がでてきているので、
何かこの辺の突っ込みが具体的に出てきてもいいんですけどねぇ…… :roll:

私は Slacko-5.7.0 PAEのUpdates Managerにより、

からopenssl-1.0.1g-i486-1_slack14.0.txzをダウンロードしたものです。
そのままでもインストール出来ますが、Precise 5.7.1で展開したものをdir2petでpet化したものです。
作業はExt4パーティション上で行ないパーミッションの変更は行っていません。

Slacko-5.7/5.7.0では、Update Manageからダウンロード・インストールがシームレスに出来ますが、
他のバージョンのパピーでは、次のURLでダウンロード出来ます。

困りましたねえ。Ubuntuのものと Precise Puppy のものとで /etc/ssl/openssl.cnf の内容が微妙に異なります。
差分を取ってみて、次の部分のコメントに注目。上がUbuntu、下がパピー。

上のUbuntuで「昔の」Netscape という表現が、下のパピーのほうでは「現在の」Netscape となっている。
推察するに、パピーの /etc/ssl/openssl.cnf は、かなり旧いものを踏襲しているらしい。
新しくするのが正しいのか、旧いまま置いておくほうが良いのか…… :roll:

これは CSR(SSL サーバ証明書を発行する時に作成するファイル)作成のデフォルト値ですね。

「CSR を作成する」という行為そのものを通常行う事はないです。
特に Puppy ではサーバ運用するケースが少ないので、
作成しないといけないケースはごくまれに発生するとみます。
作成するケースがあるにしても、CSR は英文表記が常識的に使われているので、
この値は影響を受けない感じがしますね。

ところで、私が気が付いたところで、パピー(Precise Puppy)組み込みの httpサーバー hiawatha は、 openssl の旧バージョンを使っているようです。

暗号化の生成方法と CSR 生成のデフォルト値ですね。
クライアント用途ではこの値を使う事は通常ないですね。先ほどの値部分に同じです。

今回のバグ対象は 1.0.1 系のみなので、古いバージョンは気にする事はありません。
そして 0.9.8 系も更新が行われています。
Mac でおなじみの OS X も OpenSSL が含まれていますが、これも 0.9.8 系です。

Precise Puppy 上の OpenSSL

たぶんこれでビンゴでしょう…。
Precise Puppy (571JP, 550JP 共通)に実装の OpenSSL はバージョン違いの2つあります。
もととなる Ubuntu パッケージは次の4っ。openssl_0.9.8k が今回の新発見。
libssl0.9.8_0.9.8o-7ubuntu3.1_i386.deb
openssl_0.9.8k-7ubuntu8.15_i386.deb
libssl1.0.0_1.0.1-4ubuntu5.9_i386.deb
openssl_1.0.1-4ubuntu5.9_i386.deb
これらから取捨選択があって、次の2つのPETを作成し、これを使ってPrecise Puppyが組み立てられている。
openssl0
openssl
これらが収録するファイルはどれなのかは、 /root/.packages/builtin_files 内を見ると分かる。
その結果はさきの記事→ viewtopic.php?f=35&t=2581#p19129
基本的に前者は旧バージョン、後者は新バージョンなのだが、
woof-installed-packages に記載の無かった openssl_0.9.8k パッケージから
ファイル /etc/ssl/openssl.cnf が新バージョンのはずの openssl のほうに潜り込んでいた!というのが新発見です。

/etc/ssl/openssl.cnf の由来が分かったことに加え、enginesの由来もすっきりした。
/usr/lib/engines は旧バージョン由来で、openssl0 PETに。
新バージョンの /usr/lib/openssl-1.0.0/engines は openssl PETに取り込まれていない(捨てられている)。

なぜこうなっているかということを想像すると、パピーに組み込みのHTTPサーバーである hiawatha が旧バージョンのOpenSSLを使っているからではないか。ファイル /etc/ssl/openssl.cnf がサーバーでしか必要ないという、ふ〜せんさんのコメントより、そう思えた。
engines も誰がこれを使うのかというと、hiawathaなのかなあと。

で、私の結論です。Precise Puppy (571JP, 550JP共通)での対処法

方法1)
http://packages.ubuntu.com/precise/libssl1.0.0 から libssl1.0.0_1.0.1-4ubuntu5.12_i386.deb を入手してインストール。

方法2)
あるいは Puppy パッケージマネージャのデータベースを更新後 libssl を precise-main から検索し libssl1.0.0_1.0.1 をインストール。

opensslは更新する必要が無く(追加情報: /usr/bin/openssl のハッシュを取ってみたが同一ファイルだった)、
更新すると副作用の恐れ(/etc/ssl/openssl.cnf)があるので、更新しないのが吉。

方法3)
libssl-fix-1.0.1-4ubuntu5.12.pet をインストール。

さきの方法1あるいは方法2で libssl1.0.0_1.0.1-4ubuntu5.12_i386.deb に含まれる /usr/lib/openssl-1.0.0/engines 以下のファイルはパピーでは使われない。
そのことで特段の問題があるわけではないが、それらを除き、/lib 以下の2つのファイルだけを抽出したもの。

hiawatha 用の OpenSSL……それでしょうね。

でも、これでも openssl.cnf の値を必要とする操作を行っているかどうかが疑問です。
おそらくそのような事を行う可能性はないでしょう。
あれば手動生成なので、/usr/bin/openssl を使うはずです。
openssl.cnf の値は主に実行ファイルが使用します。

openssl.cnf がない状態でも警告はでて動作するのですが、
そういう状態でも Puppy 上は問題ないと思うんですよね。
なので、openssl.cnf の変化は気にしなくても良いんじゃないかと思っています。

Ubuntu だとサーバ用途も考えられるので、(Ubuntu Server が存在します)
それ向けの openssl.cnf が用意されてあるのだと思われますが……

分かりました! :idea:

openssl.cnf の更新を行っている理由が分かりました。
暗号化させるロジックを今回の更新で変更させています。

今回のセキュリティ問題で当然 SSL のセキュリティは壊されてます。
そのため、SSL 証明書を再発行してもらう必要が生じています。
openssl.cnf を更新する事で暗号化ロジックを変更して、安全性を高める必要があったのです。

なので、セキュリティ面を考えると、むしろ openssl.cnf は更新されていなければいけません。
古いものを引き継ぐのは良くありません。

既に存在しているファイルの重要性があるなら、
ファイルの上書きではなく、パッチ更新で対応しているはずです。
上書きしているのは、別に従来の値が壊れても問題がないものだからです。
Puppy で取り出すと見えてないのですが、
.deb には DEBIAN フォルダも存在していて、そこにパッチとかを入れています。
(.pet でいう pet.specs や pinstall.sh)
Debian ではこれを利用して、今回の更新時に再起動のメッセージを促します。

個人的結論だと、openssl の実行ファイルを実行して証明書の生成を行わない限りは
openssl.cnf を使用する事がないので、ほったらかしで良い(libssl の更新だけでも良い)のですが、
万全な対応で考えると openssl.cnf は更新をする必要があるので、
結果として openssl パッケージも対応が必要と考えます。
